On the first major Lobby Day of the New York legislative year, 35 CWA members representing locals throughout the state gathered in Albany on January 28th to speak with State Senators and Assemblymembers about our slate of pro-worker bills for 2020.

NYC WORKERS WIN VOLUNTARY RECOGNITION WITH LOCAL 1180

The workers of Edible Schoolyard NYC scored a major victory in their efforts to unionize. The employer voluntarily recognized their union on January 22nd, paving the way for the workers to begin negotiations as members of CWA Local 1180. Edible Schoolyard NYC runs programs in City schools to teach kids about healthy eating through gardening and cooking fresh food. The new bargaining unit includes teachers, program and network managers, coordinators, and assistants.

CWAers WORKS TO LIFT UP OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN PUERTO RICO

Following the devastating earthquake and prolonged aftershocks in Puerto Rico this month, CWA Locals 1108 and 1180 have stepped up to lend a hand to those left without food, water, and power. 1108 members gathered and delivered supplies to the office of Suffolk County Legislator Sam Gonzalez, including water, first aid kits, flashlights, batteries, baby care products, and more, while 1180 has been collecting linens, personal hygiene items, and baby care products.
