CWA Local 1103 Rallies to Ask: Who Pays?

On July 1, the CWA Local 1103 Legislative and Political Action Team helped bring together other unions, members of the community, and elected officials to stage a stop in Croton-on-Hudson, NY on the Who Pays? Bus Tour.

The Who Pays? Bus Tour is traveling across the country to pose the question of who benefited and who’s shouldering the costs from the 2025 so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”. At each stop, the bus tour is telling local stories from those impacted by federal budget cuts that have come as a result of the bill, and holding our elected officials accountable to their constituents — particularly those, like New York’s Rep. Mike Lawler, who voted three times to cut funding for Medicaid and Medicare, despite promises to the contrary.

“Because of Mike Lawler’s lies and votes to cut Medicaid, we will all suffer — even those not on Medicaid or Medicare — because you can’t cut healthcare for one person without it affecting other people,” said Local 1103 member Janet Simmons, speaking at the rally. “As these cuts come into effect, local hospitals, urgent care centers, clinics, and longterm care facilities will be forced to cut services and even shut down.”

Signed into law one year ago, the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” delivered $4.5 trillion in tax cuts to billionaires and large corporations and slashed programs that help working families meet basic needs like healthcare and food assistance.

Croton-on-Hudson was the third stop on the 17-stop nationwide tour, which started in Portland, ME on June 30th and hit thirteen states before ending on July 16th in Tucson, AZ.

“Make no mistake about it, Medicaid is health insurance and it affects our children, our parents, and all working class folks — even those not on Medicaid,” said Local 1103 member James Tobin. “And Lawler did it all for the love of funding tax breaks for billionaires!”
