Black History Month Spotlight: Michele Long Vickers, CWA Local 1040

This Black History Month, CWA Local 1040 PROUDLY nominates and recognizes their President, Michele Long-Vickers, for her unwavering leadership, activism and professionalism!

Michele Long Vickers has served as President of CWA Local 1040 in Ewing, New Jersey, since 2022. Before being elected President in 2022, she was Executive Vice President of CWA Local 1040, serving under Carolyn C Wade.

During her time as Local President, she organized a series of blitzes across New Jersey. These efforts resulted in hundreds of members receiving information about CWA-negotiated benefits, rights, and the healthcare campaign. She mobilizes her staff and members when they face workplace challenges from management. As Local President, she has been a thought leader on Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, Governor Mikie Sherrill’s dramatic win last year, and many issues impacting CWA District 1 members.

Michele has been a proud labor activist and member of CWA Local 1040 for more than two decades. Over these 20+ years, she has served as Shop Steward, Branch Treasurer, Branch Vice President, and Branch President, and has spent 14 years as a staff representative. The timeline of these roles overlaps, with her staff representative position spanning a significant portion of her tenure.

Michele was a member and supervisor of the Local by-laws committee. She was also the Vice-President of the New Jersey CLUW Chapter. Michele worked for 18 years as a Social Worker at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital. She is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University.

Above all, President Vickers is dedicated to fostering a strong, unified local where each member is informed, represented, and empowered to succeed. Her unwavering commitment ensures that her members' voices are heard and valued, driving positive change within CWA Local 1040.

President Long-Vickers leads with integrity, strength, and purpose – always prepared, informed and FEARLESS when representing CWA Local 1040 members. Her advocacy ensures every voice is heard, addressed, and respected. Through her leadership, members feel seen, heard and valued – not just at the bargaining table , but every day. She exemplifies what it means to lead with both conviction and compassion. Her efforts will make for a lasting impact on our union.
