Fast Track/TPP National Day of Action

We're standing up and fighting back against the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP). The trade deal, which has been negotiated in secret with the help of Wall Street, will kill jobs, hurt our environment, and make our food and water less safe.

The deal would also allow companies to sue state, local, and federal governments if a new law or policies hindered their future profits. This could make lawmakers reluctant to pass laws in the public interest if they thought a foreign company could sue. "This should give pause to all members of Congress, who will soon be asked to vote on fast-track negotiating authority to close the agreement," said New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman in a recent op-ed in Politico.

On April 18th, CWAers, other unions, community groups, and environmental organizations took action to stop TPP.

On Long Island, over 100 people picketed outside Republican Representative Lee Zeldin’s fundraiser to protest his support for Fast Tracking the TPP.  In Westchester County, nearly 100 people joined Democratic Representatives Nita Lowey and Eliot Engel, and state and local legislators to say No to Fast Track.

The response was huge. We’ll keep pushing back and, together, we can stop this bad trade deal.
