Election 2024: Ready to Fight for the Future Workers Deserve
It’s been said before, and it’s going to be said many more times before November 5th: this election isn't just the most important one of our lifetimes - it's an opportunity to help make history.
CWAers area already stepping up throughout District 1 to be part of making history and help elect candidates up and down the ballot who are on our side and planning events for now through November 5th.
On August 26th we kicked off our election work with a District-wide Town Hall held over Zoom, with over 250 attendees who came together to say: "WE ARE READY!"
"I'll be honest, when I started with volunteering two years ago, I was pretty nervous," said CWA Local 1109's Jason Gonzalez, speaking about the experience of doing election campaign work like phonebanking and canvassing. "But I couldn't wait to have these conversations, because that's the way we win. And I'll never go back to not participating. We have a chance to make history. What a gift we've been given."
Last week we started phonebanking for Harris/Walz, making calls with the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO to PA union members. PA for Harris/Walz phonebanks are continuing every Monday evening through September, and after that we’ll be phonebanking for Harris/Walz every Wednesday through the end of October. Click here to sign up for a phonebanking shift.
Over the weekend, CWA Local 1122 members and retirees teamed up with other Western NY union members for an AFL-CIO event canvassing and talking to voters about a strong lineup of pro-worker candidates including Kirsten Gillibrand for Senate, Tim Kennedy for Congress, April Baskin for Erie County Legislature, Monica Wallace for Assembly, and Walter Burgett for Cheektowaga Town Council.
Yesterday, CWA retirees in New Jersey held a Postcard-Writing Party - over the course of the day, 23 attendees wrote and sent out 1,280 postcards to CWA members about Kamala Harris for President and labor champion Sue Altman for Congress. Help us elect Sue by joining a Labor Walk (every Saturday through October) or a phonebank (every Wednesday evening).
Join us to be a part of this moment. We’re going to need all hands on deck to win for workers and for our country.
