D1 Human Rights Committee Takes On Gender Justice

The CWA District 1 Human Rights Committee continued its excellent work last month by hosting the newly released Gender Justice Program on March 25th.

The day-long program addressed gender bias, patriarchy, and homophobia in labor throughout history and today, and helped members challenge their own gender biases and encourage community engagement to foster a more proactive movement for gender justice.

The training was divided into four modules:

  • Bias, focused on identifying common gender biases that women face at work and encouraging participants to examine their own biases
  • Gender in labor, presenting historical case studies of gender injustice related to work and connecting them to contemporary issues
  • Building power and solidarity, further exploring the significance of solidarity and what it entails
  • Community engagement, highlighting the necessity of solidarity that extends beyond our union and into the wider community
