CWAers Step Up to Ensure Their Communities Won’t Go Hungry in the Wake of Government Cuts

Many families throughout the country experience food insecurity, unable to make ends meet, and this year’s federal budget bill - the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” - as well as the prolonged government shutdown, have exacerbated the issue, leaving many families without access to social services intended to help meet basic needs.

With the holiday season rapidly approaching, many have stepped up to help fill the gaps left by the federal government. In the days leading up to Thanksgiving, CWA Local 1120 spearheaded a food drive along with the Dutchess County, NY Central Labor Council and Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation, and with the help of several legislative allies like Dutchess County Minority Leader Yvette Valdes Smith. The effort was a smashing success, collecting over 700 pounds of food for families ahead of the holiday!
