CWA and Four Other Labor Strong for 2021 NYC Elections!

We made a huge announcement in New York City on January 27th: CWA District 1 is one of five members of a newly-formed coalition of NYC unions coming together to fight for a strong slate of pro-worker candidates for New York City Council: the Labor Strong 2021 coalition.

In addition to CWA District 1, Labor Strong 2021 includes 32BJ SEIU, AFSCME District Council 37 (DC37), the Hotel Trades Council (HTC), and the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA), together representing 362,000 members and households of essential workers -- including nurses, doormen, hotel cleaners, public service and telecommunication workers -- who have been on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"CWA District 1 is proud to join in this historic partnership," said Dennis Trainor, Vice President CWA District 1. "It’s clearer than ever that workers are the backbone of this city. Our members have kept healthcare centers running and made it possible for New Yorkers to work and learn at home. Now we must fight for a City Council that will truly protect the City's working families as we strive to rebuild and emerge from this crisis stronger than ever."

The Labor Strong 2021 coalition endorsed a total of 31 City Council candidates throughout Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, and is committed to electing a pro-labor majority that will put the needs of working people and our communities first.
