CROSS-COUNTRY SOLIDARITY; FORDHAM GRADUATE WORKERS RAMP UP THEIR FIGHT FOR A FIRST CONTRACT
Graduate workers at Fordham University, who joined CWA Local 1104 in 2022, have been fighting for their first union contract for over a year while the university, led by President Tania Tetlow, continues to drag their feet on any compromise. But the grad workers - who teach classes, grade papers, and assist with research - are standing strong and ramping up their mobilization to win a fair contract that includes a living wage.
On January 25th Fordham workers and Local 1104 leadership picketed outside of President Tetlow's reception at the Penn Club in New York City to tell Fordham alumni and families about their fight, and show how the university has decreased spending on instruction, research, and academic support by $15 million while increasing spending on administration by $13 million.
And 1104 got some cross-country solidarity from our CWA siblings on the West Coast! CWA Local 9003 members handed out flyers at Fordham’s Alumni Presidential Reception in Los Angeles on January 16th, where President Tetlow was speaking. Local 9410 members joined the action on January 18th, handing out flyers at an alumni event in San Francisco.
