Agreement Finalized Between CWA and Verizon on Frontier Merger for Rochester, NY Workers
Following the announcement earlier this year that Verizon would be acquiring Frontier Communications and the two companies petitioning the NY Public Service Commission to approve the merger, CWA has been negotiating with the PSC to ensure that Frontier workers in Rochester, NY - members of CWA Local 1170 - will be protected during the transition and retain their collective bargaining rights.
In late November, CWA came to an agreement with several strong stipulations, including:
- Frontier Rochester will eliminate its current use of contractors to perform professional in-home fiber installation and repair work covered by the collective bargaining agreement
- During the term of the successor agreement to the current CBA, Frontier Rochester will hire at least 20 bargaining unit employees
- No involuntary layoffs of CWA-represented workers at Frontier Rochester for three years following the close of the Agreement and Plan Merger (APM) who was an employee of Frontier Rochester at the time of the signing of the APM
