NLRB SEEKS RARE INJUNCTION AGAINST CABLEVISION FOR ILLEGALLY FIRING UNION ACTIVIST
Cablevision and its CEO James Dolan have a long history of violating federal labor law and they are at it again.
The National Labor Relations Board has gone to Federal Court to ask a judge to issue an injunction against Cablevision for illegally firing a union activist at a call center in Nassau County.The move for injunction is rare and is sought in less than 1% of its cases.
NEWSGUILD REACHES GROUNDBREAKING CONTRACT AT THE NATION
Employees at The Nation voted to ratify a historic six year contract which will provide employees four months of paid parental leave regardless of gender, a nearly unheard of benefit in the news industry.
ERIE COUNTY PASSES SAFE STAFFING RESOLUTION
In another win for safe staffing in upstate New York, the Erie County Legislature has passed a resolution to support the Safe Staffing for Quality Care Act which would help ensure hospitals and nursing homes in New York State are properly staffed.
CWA Locals 1168 and 1133 and the New York State Nurses Association have been working hard to lobby for legislation to ensure patients receive the quality care they deserve.

CONGRESS FINALLY PASSES 9/11 HEALTH BILL

In a hard fought victory, on December 18, 2015 Congress finally voted to reauthorize the 9/11 Health Bill to ensure those who were injured, are sick, or who may become ill as a result of 9/11 will permanently receive the health care they need.
If you were affected by 9/11 as part of the response and recovery efforts or if you lived or worked in the WTC vicinity, you can still apply to the World Trade Center Health Program and you may still be eligible for VCF benefits.
