On Wednesday, CWA Local 1108 - joined by 32BJ/SEIU, Long Island Progressive Coalition, New York Communities for Change, and the Working Families Party - rallied to demand the resignation of NY Senator Kemp Hannon following disclosure of $130,000 in investments in pharmaceutical and other health-related companies.

Hannon has been profiting from investments made in companies that, as head of the Senate Health Committee, fall under his purview. Records show that over the past four years Hannon also received more than $420,000 from pharmaceutical and other medical interests.

CWAers and allies marched outside the law offices of Farrell Fritz, where Hannon is special counsel, to call on him to either resign from the firm - which represents health care companies - or step down from the Senate.

“There’s an ingrained culture of pay-to-play in Albany that’s too pervasive and needs to come to an end immediately,” said Michael Gendron, Executive Vice President of CWA Local 1108. “We need leaders whose motives are good policy, good government, not a good payday.”

Hannon represents the 6th District of New York.
