CWA District 1 Statement Following ICE Shooting in Marble Hill, NYC
New York, NY – The Communications Workers of America (CWA) District 1 released the following statement regarding the shooting of a New Yorker by immigration enforcement officers in New York City on October 8th.
“On Thursday, an ICE officer, wearing a construction safety vest, shot a New Yorker during school pick-up in the Bronx, with his 5-year-old child sitting in the car. This is not an isolated incident. It is the latest act of violence by rogue immigration enforcement officers who operate with impunity.
As a union, we are alarmed by ICE’s escalating actions in our communities and our workplaces, as well as the blatant disregard for due process. All New Yorkers, our members among them, have a right to safety, respect, and dignity. We will not stand by while those rights are under attack. We demand accountability and transparency following this incident and an end to violent ICE enforcement in our communities.”
