CWA District 1 Endorses Zohran Mamdani for Mayor of New York City
New York, NY – The Communications Workers of America (CWA) District 1, representing over 25,000 New York City workers, is proud to announce its endorsement of Zohran Mamdani for Mayor of New York City in the upcoming 2025 election.
CWAs endorsement comes in recognition of Mamdani’s strong track record of advocacy for working families—from the picket lines to the halls of Albany.
“When unions vote, working people win,” said Dennis G. Trainor, Vice President of CWA District 1. “After four years of political gridlock and controversy, and prices continuing to rise so drastically that many are being squeezed out of the city where they work, New Yorkers are fed up and ready to fight for real change.”
In his time in the State Assembly, Mamdani has been a strong ally to CWA members as well as unions and working people throughout the state, supporting key legislation aimed at reinforcing union protections, union job growth, expanding affordable broadband access, safe staffing for healthcare workers, and increasing investment in public services.
Mamdani has been a consistent champion for union members and other workers, supporting numerous organizing drives, contract campaigns, rallies, strikes, and more, including joining CWA Local 1133 members on the picket line during their 40-day strike against Catholic Health Services in Buffalo, NY in 2021.
“I’m honored to have the support of the Communications Workers of America District 1 and their 25,000 members here in New York City. Unions like CWA have always fought for the dignity of every worker. They need a partner in City Hall who will make this city more affordable, deliver the quality of life they deserve, and refuse to bow down to billionaires,” said Zohran Mamdani.
“This election comes down to a simple question: who has had our back and who will work with us to strengthen our city for working families, rather than catering to the ultra-rich?” Trainor continued. “Zohran Mandani has proven his commitment to CWA members and our communities. He’s met with our members, walked our picket lines, and helped us pass key pieces of legislation to expand jobs and union protections throughout New York. At a time when New Yorkers need a champion for working people the most, CWA District 1 is very proud to endorse Zohran Mamdani for Mayor!”
