CWA District 1 Announces New Slate of Congressional Endorsements, Backing Pro-Labor Incumbents for the Midterms and Analilia Mejia in the NJ-11 Primary
NEW JERSEY – The Communications Workers of America (CWA) District 1 today announced a powerful slate of endorsements for U.S. House seats across New Jersey, underscoring the union’s commitment to electing pro-worker champions who will fight for economic justice, protect collective bargaining rights, and defend democracy.
CWA District 1 is proud to endorse the re-election of the following incumbent members, recognized for their unwavering partnership with labor and working people:
NJ-01: Donald Norcross
NJ-03: Herb Conaway
NJ-06: Frank Pallone
NJ-08: Robert Menendez
NJ-09: Nellie Pou
NJ-10: LaMonica McIver
Donald Norcross, a former IBEW member, has been instrumental in passing historic infrastructure investments that create good union jobs. In Congress, Norcross serves on the House Committee on Education and Workforce, is co-chair of the Labor Caucus, and has a solid track record of fighting to restore and protect federal employee collective bargaining rights.
Frank Pallone, as a key architect of the Inflation Reduction Act, has delivered massive investments in manufacturing and played a key role on New Jersey’s plans to mitigate the effects of climate change. Pallone was also instrumental in the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that has delivered federal funding to New Jersey to bolster the state's electric vehicle infrastructure, invest in safe drinking water, and deploy affordable broadband.
CWA District 1 Vice President Dennis Trainor praised the endorsed incumbents for their tangible results for New Jersey workers. "From the halls of Congress to the shop floors of New Jersey, our members have seen the difference these leaders make. They don't just vote right; they deliver."
The union is also celebrating the legacy of Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12), who is retiring after a historic career of service. "We will deeply miss Rep. Watson Coleman’s fearless leadership and powerful voice in Congress, and we thank her for a lifetime of fighting for justice," said Trainor.
In the Democratic primary for the NJ-11 special election, the Union is throwing its support behind Analilia Mejia, longtime ally of CWA.
Anna-Marta Visky, CWA District 1's New Jersey Political and Field Director, emphasized Mejia's leadership in the CWA-supported fights for a $15 minimum wage and paid sick leave, as well as her longstanding alignment with CWA’s pro-worker agenda.
"Analilia Mejia earned our support because our Locals recognized and appreciated her always standing shoulder-to-shoulder with working families. We know she’ll be a relentless advocate for raising wages, expanding collective bargaining rights, fighting for healthcare and ensuring every New Jerseyan can afford to live in the communities they help build."
Responding to CWA’s endorsement, Mejia released the following statement: “I’m honored to have CWA’s endorsement. This is a testament to our shared fight. I’ve stood with CWA members fighting for the rights of workers for the last 20 years. Their trust is my highest validation. In Congress, I will be an unwavering ally for every New Jersey working family, fighting to protect our rights and create good union jobs. I’m ready to go to Washington and deliver."
