It is with great admiration and gratitude that we recognize Nicole Walters, First Vice- President/Shop Steward. Nicole has been an employee of the City of East Orange for over 22 years within the Department of Public Safety and as a member of Local 1077, she is an extremely dedicated and compassionate shop steward who has, time and time again, demonstrated an unwavering commitment to her colleagues, even in the face of personal adversity. Her work ethic, dedication, and genuine care for the well-being of others have made a lasting impact on Local 1077.
Throughout her years of service, Nicole has been a tireless advocate for her fellow workers, including those who are domestic violence survivors, always willing to stand up for what is right, ensure fair treatment, and work towards the betterment of the workplace. Her leadership has not only fostered a sense of unity but has also brought tangible improvements to the lives of countless individuals. There isn’t a CWA member who can say that Nicole’s efforts have not benefited them being via negotiations or her tireless work as the most sought-after shop steward.
What sets Nicole apart is her ability to remain steadfast in her responsibility to others, even when she is dealing with personal challenges. Despite facing significant family crises during the passing of both her parents, she has consistently shown resilience, balancing the heavy demands of her personal life with her union responsibilities. Her capacity to put others' needs before her own, while still maintaining a sense of grace, is truly inspiring. Nicole will answer calls from her CWA members even on weekends or various hours of the night.
Her actions are a testament to the selfless nature of true leadership. Whether it’s offering guidance in difficult negotiations, providing a listening ear to those in need, or working behind the scenes to make sure everyone is heard, Nicole has truly been a beacon of hope and strength for all of us.
In recognition of her perseverance, sacrifice, and tireless work on behalf of her fellow workers, we extend our deepest appreciation and admiration.
