CWA Recommends Sean Ryan for Mayor of Buffalo

Sean has been a longtime friend to CWA. He’s been on every one of our picket lines, at every one of our rallies, and he’s been our guy again and again when we’ve needed legislation passed. Over the last 15 years since he was first elected to the New York State Assembly, no one has done more for CWA members or been a stronger advocate for working families and union rights:

SPONSORED: Legislation shortening the waiting time for striking workers to collect Unemployment Insurance (and when CWA Local 1133 members went on strike in 2021, becoming the first group of workers to take advantage of this change, Sean was there with us on the picket line and advocated on our behalf with the hospital).

SPONSORED: Safe Staffing Bill creating Clinical Staffing Committees at every NYS hospital to help alleviate the healthcare worker staffing crisis

SPONSORED: Legislation to protect call center workers by stopping call center jobs from being shipped out of state.

SPONSORED: Legislation expanding affordable broadband access throughout NY, creating more work for CWA members and more union jobs.

SPONSORED: Legislation to protect telecom workers and our collective bargaining agreements from harmful “One Touch Make Ready” regulations that would threaten our jobs.

Who we put in office in local elections can have some of the biggest impact on our lives, our families, and our jobs—andSean Ryan is the leader we need now to fight for Buffalo’s working families. He has been there for CWA members and Western New York's working families as a whole time and time and time again and has delivered consistently to help keep this one of the strongest, most union-dense regions of the country.

Sean Ryan with CWA

Sean was elected to the New York Assembly in 2011, and then to the State Senate in 2020. Prior to joining the NYS Legislature, Sean made his career as an attorney, specializing in anti-discrimination and labor law cases. He comes from a union family, the son of a firefighter and an educator.

Sean has walked every picket line and joined every rally we’ve held, and he’s committed to fighting for policies that make it easier to form and join unions. He’s been endorsed by a number of other unions, including:
