Local 1088 Ramps Up Mobilization to Demand Hazard Pay

Addressing serious concerns about workplace safety as COVID-19 infections continue sweeping through New Jersey, as well as discipline of workers on the rise, CWA Local 1088 members have stepped up to put their mobilization and solidarity on display.Ocean County Board of Social Services (OCBSS) workers coordinated a Wear Red Day at their Manahawkin work site and members sent challenges to their Lakewood and Tom’s River sisters and brothers to do the same!

On February 2nd, OCBSS 1088 members attended the Ocean County Commissioners meeting to demand hazard pay under the American Rescue Plan. These workers have been working fully in person since June of 2020 and many have contracted COVID-19 or had to use personal or unpaid time to quarantine. They have provided essential services for Ocean County's most vulnerable residents including housing, food and medical insurance, and are front line workers addressed in the American Rescue Plan. The Commissioners were very receptive.
