Communications Workers of America District 1 Announces New York State Endorsements

Union Backs Proven Champions for Working Families

NEW YORK – The Communications Workers of America (CWA) District 1 today proudly announced its first round of endorsements in the race for New York State Comptroller and federal races across New York, backing a slate of pro-labor candidates who have demonstrated their commitment to fighting for working families—not just the rich and powerful.

“Now more than ever, working people deserve—and demand—elected leaders who will truly fight for us against the billionaire class trying to weaken and undermine our communities,” said Dennis G. Trainor, CWA District 1 Vice President.

Comptroller Endorsement: Tom DiNapoli

CWA District 1 is proud to endorse longtime labor champion Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. DiNapoli has consistently used his office to protect public pensions, fight for pay equity for all workers, and hold corporations accountable, all while maintaining a deep commitment to the labor movement. Coming from a CWA family himself, DiNapoli understands the importance of protecting workers’ rights and building an economy that benefits all New Yorkers.

Congressional Endorsements:

  • NY 3: Tom Suozzi
  • NY 4: Laura Gillen
  • NY 7: Antonio Reynoso
  • NY 10: Brad Lander
  • NY 12: Alex Bores
  • NY 18: Pat Ryan
  • NY 19: Josh Riley

Brad Lander (Congressional District 10) has for decades been one of CWA’s most vocal champions. Throughout his career in public service, Lander has fought side-by-side with unions to strengthen labor rights, demand a seat at the table for working people, and ensure that economic growth benefits all New Yorkers instead of only the most wealthy. His record reflects a strong commitment to equity, accountability, and the power of collective action.

Alex Bores (Congressional District 12) represents the next generation of legislative leaders and a step forward in stronger representation for working people in Congress. Raised in a CWA household, Bores is a lifelong part of the labor world with a clear understanding of the challenges that working families face, and has used that experience to advocate in Albany for regulations that protect jobs while continuing to advance New York as one of the strongest states in the country for working families.

Fighting for a Stronger, Worker-Led Future for New York

This first round of endorsements–which will be followed by additional endorsements later this month, including State Senate and Assembly–reflects CWA’s commitment to electing real fighters for working people. From walking picket lines to joining union members at the bargaining table to passing legislation that protects and strengthens collective bargaining rights and creates more good union jobs, these candidates have demonstrated that their first commitment is not to corporate donors, but to working families.

“This election holds a great deal of promise and opportunity for working people to fight for the country and communities we want to see,” Vice President Trainor said. “And elect legislative leaders who will not just listen to the needs of their constituents, but work alongside us to build a stronger New York, and a stronger country for all working families.”
