From the Desk of the Vice President of CWA District 1

If it feels like we say every year that this is “a big election year” — you’re right. We do, and it is, year after year.
The reality is that every year brings an election on the federal, state, or local level, and every one of these elections is absolutely vital in shaping the direction of our communities and our country. This year will be no different, and it’s important to keep in mind this great right that we have to free and fair elections, especially as some make attempts to chip away at that right.
On the ballot this year throughout the country are Congressional seats, and in many of our areas there are also State, County, and Municipal races. Each one of these races is key, and none of us — especially as union members — is immune from the impact these legislators have on our lives and livelihoods. While attacks on our voting rights can feel terrifying and overwhelming, and new laws attempting to change how we vote may spark heated debate and differences of opinion, one truth holds key: the absolute best way that we can move forward together and build the country we wish to see is by showing up. When union members, our families, and our communities show up in large numbers, our voices can’t be ignored.
That means staying informed, speaking with friends and coworkers about the election, and making your plan to vote — whether it’s early in-person voting, voting by mail, or casting your vote on Election Day itself, every vote matters.
