CWA Local 1298 Helps Set Prevailing Wage on Pole Work
Great news for workers in Connecticut as CWA Local 1298 helped pass “An Act Concerning Workforce Development and Working Conditions in the State,” a strong piece of legislation that will increase workforce development and improve working conditions in the state.
The bill includes specific provisions for a number of workforce sectors, including telecommunications workers — Local 1298 helped craft language to address the backlog of double poles in Connecticut. According to the Local, “This is helpful because most attachers have not shown up to do the work they're supposed to do which creates a backlog. There is now a component that allows Verizon to shift the attachers facilities and bill the attacher at the prevailing wages for the telecommunications work related to moving facilities.”
The bill had the support of leadership in both the Connecticut State House and the Senate, as well as bi-partisan support from the legislative body, demonstrating just how vital and supported it is throughout the state.
