CWA Local 1103, Westchester Community to Congress: HANDS OFF OUR MEDICAID!

The current Congressional leadership is considering MASSIVE cuts to Medicaid, putting all of our healthcare at risk. In New York alone, many hospitals are struggling financially and some are on the verge of being shut down or key services being eliminated. Medicaid reimbursement does not cover the full cost of care, so the current system relies on subsidizing the underpayment of Medicaid from the State through private commercial health insurance payment. Federal cuts to Medicaid would result in not just threats to care for the 7 million New Yorkers who rely on Medicaid, but increased costs for all of us and threats to quality of care as hospitals are forced to take further cost-cutting measures.

Members of CWA’s Legislative and Political Action Team (LPAT) in New York have been speaking with State legislators about the need to increase the Medicaid reimbursement rates to 100% to cover the full cost of care. And on February 22nd, CWA Local 1103 members joined other labor and community groups in Nyack, NY for a community forum to speak with members of the public about this issue and how we can stop Congress from making cuts to Medicaid.

CWA’s tabled at the event, shared info, and asked community members to make calls to Rep. Mike Lawlor’s office to tell him: “Hands off our Medicaid!”
