CWA Local 1037 Members Ask: What Would a Day Without Childcare Look Like?

On May 11th, CWA Local 1037 members joined several other labor and community groups including 32BJ SEIU, NJ Citizen Action, and more to hold the fifth annual Day Without Child Care at the New Jersey State House Annex in Trenton, demanding that New Jersey lawmakers prioritize childcare during State budget negotiations. When care is too expensive or unavailable, working families are forced to choose between their jobs and their children. As CWAers who are childcare providers know, this is unacceptable, and this issue will not get any better without a living wage for childcare workers.

The coalition is fighting for:

• Expanded Child Care Assistance Program eligibility so more low-income families can access care

• Higher reimbursement rates and living wages for child care providers

• A fully funded childcare system that works for families, educators, and children
