TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT AGENTS FIGHT FOR SAFETY ON THE JOB

Threatened, cursed at, spit on, bullied. Harassed. Assaulted. All while on the job.

There are approximately 3,000 traffic enforcement agents and officers in the New York City. They are among the first responders to emergencies, they enforce regulations, direct traffic, and work around the clock in all kinds of weather. On a daily basis they are attacked, harassed, and abused while trying to do their jobs, but are not afforded the same protections as NYPD officers and others. They're taking a stand now to change that.

CWA Locals 1181 and 1182 have been conducting a survey among TEAs on health and safety issues on the job, and Delegates from each local recently gathered to discuss the survey results and next steps. In addition, New Yorkers are fighting for legislation to protect TEAs by granting Peace Officer status for Traffic Enforcement Agents and bringing them more in line with protections that other first responders have. Next up in the campaign to make the job safer for our members: making phonecalls and sending postcards to the New York State legislature to demand action.
