CWA Hits the Streets for our Champions in Congress
It’s that time of year again, and CWA members have already been out pounding the pavement for Congressional candidates who have shown they’ll go to bat for workers.
This past Saturday, on one of the last summer-like weekends here in the Northeast, CWA members across New York and New Jersey canvassed door-to-door for five of our champions:
In Oneida, which is near Utica, New York, 12 CWA members from Locals 1118, 1124, 1126, and 81359 took to the streets for Congressman Bill Owens.
In Poughkeepsie, 30 members of Locals 1103 and 1120 were joined by District 1 Vice President Chris Shelton to knock on doors for Congressman John Hall.
In New Jersey, Locals 1032, 1037, 1038, and 1039 brought out 20 people to make the case for Rush Holt.
In Syracuse, 2 members from Local 1123 got the word out for Congressman Dan Maffei.
Out on Long Island, 3 members of Local 1108 canvassed for Congressman Tim Bishop.
Each of these candidates is facing an anti-labor challenger who would take us right back to the failed policies of the Bush Administration. CWA members talked to other union members – and explained the vital differences between the candidates.
The response from our sisters and brothers was very positive. If we can get out the labor vote, we will win each of these races – and re-elect people who stand up for working families. Please help CWA get it done, call your local to join a door-to-door canvassing walk or help on a phone bank happening near you!
