A unit of 55 apheresis and donor specialists at the American Red Cross have won their election to join CWA Local 1118 in Albany, NY. The final vote count was 44 yes votes and 2 no votes. Pat Cumo from Local 1118 led the campaign, assisted by Erin Bowie and Anne Luck-Deak.

The Red Cross supplies 40 percent of the blood and blood products used in our country, and these workers are integral to that process. Without a safe and reliable blood supply, many lifesaving medical treatments and procedures  would not be possible.

We welcome these new members to the CWA family and wish good luck to Red Cross workers in Syracuse, NY whose election to join CWA Local 1123  is set for September 10.

CWA represents Red Cross health care workers in New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia. In August, this first-ever national tentative settlement covering some 4,000 workers - members of CWA, AFSCME, the Teamsters, Service Employees, American Federation of Teachers, United Auto Workers, Food and Commercial Workers and United Steelworkers -  at American Red Cross operations in 24 states was reached.
