Verizon Regional Bargaining Report #41
CWA District 1/IBEW Local 2213 and IBEW New England Regional Committees met this week at the Rye Town Hilton in Westchester. The committees met from Tuesday to Friday this week to attempt to ignite the bargaining process that has been stalled because of Verizon’s refusal to move off their position of shifting thousands of dollars in healthcare costs, eliminating job security, freezing pensions, eliminating Accident and Sickness Disability and more. The Union and the Company exchanged a total of four comprehensive proposals during the week and Verizon still has almost all of their retrogressive demands on the table. Your bargaining team is committed to continue bargaining until an agreement is reached that is fair to our members and shares in Verizon’s $1 Billion per month profits. Thank you to the thousands of CWA and IBEW members who showed up at rallies this week and stood in the pouring rain to fight for fair and just contracts at Verizon and Verizon Wireless. In NYC members spilled into the streets and marched through midtown Manhattan from the 34th Street Verizon Wireless Store to another store on 42nd Street. Members are engaged in this fight and we must continue to mobilize to send the message that the Company must get their retrogressive demands off of the table. Bargaining is scheduled to resume next week in Rye, New York. Remember, it is more important than ever that our members continue to Mobilize and that every member commit to spending at least 2 hours per week participating in off the job mobilization activities. Call your local or talk to your steward and find out what you can do to help. KEEP UP THE FIGHT! Mobilize! Mobilize! Mobilize!
