Today in Albany, CWA members from Locals 1168, 1133, 1180, 1103, 1111, 1118, and 1126 were joined by our sisters and brothers from NYSNA, NYSUT, PEF, 1199SEIU, and the NY State Wide Senior Action Council to tell Albany legislators: Patient safety can't wait! Members spent the day urging Legislators to pass the Safe Staffing for Quality Care Act this session.

"The numbers don't lie," said Assemblyman Richard Gottfried, Chair of the Health Committee. "Fewer nurses, people die; more nurses, people live."

Verizon picketers joined the rally where they were recognized for their efforts to preserve good middle-class jobs and fighting corporate greed. The CWA healthcare members then joined them on their line.

Thanks to the hard work of our members and allies, 97 members of the State Assembly and 28 members of the State Senate are now sponsors of the Safe Staffing Bill. 21 municipalities, most recently the City of Schenectady, have passed resolutions in favor of the legislation.
