New York State Primary Wins

CWA endorsed candidates won in the New York Democratic Primary Tuesday. Zephyr Teachout, author and law professor, won the Democratic primary in New York's 19th Congressional District. She will face off in November with John Faso, a Republican and former member of the New York State Assembly. 

Teachout’s campaign has focused on fighting money and corrpution in politics, protecting public eduation, and fighting for renewable energy. 

She garnered national attention with her 2014 primary challenge to New York Govenor Andrew Cuomo, a race in which she secured over a 35% of the vote with a grassroots operation.

Representative Nydia Velazquez of the 7th, which includes parts of northern Brooklyn and Queens, and Representative Jerrold Nadler, of the 10th District, which runs down the West Side of Manhattan and into southern Brooklyn, won reelection. 

Focus now turns to State Senate and New York State Assembly races, in particular supporting Anthony Eramo for State Assembly in the 20th District in Long Island. Eramo is a CWA Local 1106 member and current Long Beach City Council member.
