Victory in Utica, NY

One day longer, one day stronger. After years of hard work and determination, over 700 workers just won their NLRB election at Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare in Utica, NY. The workers voted 309-210 to join our union.

“I’ve been working long and hard for this day. By organizing with my co-workers to have a successful and strong vote to join CWA, I feel like we’ve begun the work necessary to bring us real power and a real voice in our workplace,”
- Beth Dowd, Unit Secretary in Maternity Services at the Hospital

More than 50 committee members and over two dozen CWA Local 1126 member activists worked tirelessly to help with assessments, card signing, and to get out the vote.

“This is a big day for our Local and for the support staff who have now won their Union. No longer will the Hospital be able to simply issue a memo and take away benefits or arbitrarily change important aspects of workers’ lives. The ability to negotiate with your employer has a direct and powerful effect on every worker’s daily life and we’re excited to now stand in solidarity as more than 1,500 workers strong at Faxton St. Luke’s,”

- Frank Murphy, President CWA Local 1126.

This is an important victory and a wonderful example of what we can achieve when we stand united.
