I want a union so RAs have a livable wage as the cost of living becomes more and more unaffordable. 

A stipend that forces us to spend over half our income on rent makes us financially insecure and compromise our focus on the research this institution relies on. Forming a union ensures our voices are heard and our basic needs are no longer overlooked.

I want a union to secure better pay and benefits for all graduate researchers so we can keep doing what we love.

I believe that the time is now to build our union, to secure a better future for us and future RAs at UB.

 As a former TA, now RA, I was disappointed to lose the benefits, wages, and ability to bargain with a union. RAs need a union so UB's graduate students can bargain as an entire unit!

Without a union, RAs don't have the collective bargaining power, visibility, and solidarity the GAs and TAs have won. Having a union will make life easier for all those who switch back and forth from being RAs to being GAs or TAs throughout our time as grad students. An RA union just makes sense.

 Additional international student protections would give me the peace of mind when I am traveling to my home country that my job is secure.

Research Assistants (RAs) are the backbone of any research institute. An RA union ensures students' concerns can be raised directly to upper management, making us harder to ignore.

 I have 3 engineering degrees but can't get health insurance because of arbitrary RA rules.

The main reason I want a union is to ensure international students have job security and the ability to handle visa or family emergencies without risking their positions or stipends.

I want to be part of the RA union to support and help promote safe, respectful, and inclusive working conditions for all research assistants (domestic and international).

I want equally rights and conditions as TAs. We have more in common than different.
