WE'RE ALL IN FOR A UNION!

We’re unionizing to improve our working conditions and to be able to better study and contribute to our important fields of research.

Together, with a seat at the bargaining table, we can push to improve things like:

  • Annual stipend increases
  • Expanding existing benefits in our contract, such as quality vision and dental coverage
  • Professional development resources and funding
  • Making sure our labs meet safe standards
  • Parking access and affordability
  • Disciplinary protections
  • Job security
  • A voice in employment-related immigration and visa issues
  • Overall more input on policies that affect RA’s

As a union, we aim to ensure that the needs of our diverse student population are addressed. Despite our qualifications we are some of the lower paid workers at the University at Buffalo, and are living through an affordability crisis. This affects our personal lives and our research. Many of us are international students which adds even more uncertainty. A union will help ensure us security, compensation and a more stable work-life balance that lets our research thrive.

Join us! Vote for our union:

Ayah
AYAH, Computer Science and Engineering

I want a union so RAs have a livable wage as the cost of living becomes more and more unaffordable.

ABHINAV
ABHINAV, Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering

A stipend that forces us to spend over half our income on rent makes us financially insecure and compromise our focus on the research this institution relies on. Forming a union ensures our voices are heard and our basic needs are no longer overlooked.

DYLAN
DYLAN, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

I want a union to secure better pay and benefits for all graduate researchers so we can keep doing what we love.

PRANAV
PRANAV, Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering

I believe that the time is now to build our union, to secure a better future for us and future RAs at UB.

PATRICK
PATRICK, Structural Biology

I want an RA union to negotiate for great salaries!

NARESH

I want an RA union, because we need a democratic body to stand up for students.

Amrith

Vote RA union -- For international student rights, fair benefits, legal & tax support, and SEVIS fee reimbursment. Together we build a stronger better future for every RA.

Jesus
JESUS, Physics

Our union creates a tight knit community where voices are heard and workplace concerns don't feel isolating.

Ali
ALI, Engineering Education

I support the union because I want collective protections, especially for international RAs who may feel vulnerable, and a formal platform to raise concerns and seek meaningful support.

I want a union to ensure that all RAs have equitable workloads and improved benefits.

Atul
ATUL, Computer Science and Engineering

I want a union because I would like to build a community with RAs across departments and have a collective voice to negotiate better wages and benefits.

Beth
BETH, History

As a former TA, now RA, I was disappointed to lose the benefits, wages, and ability to bargain with a union. RAs need a union so UB's graduate students can bargain as an entire unit!

SEBASTIAN
SEBASTIAN, Philosophy

Without a union, RAs don't have the collective bargaining power, visibility, and solidarity the GAs and TAs have won. Having a union will make life easier for all those who switch back and forth from being RAs to being GAs or TAs throughout our time as grad students. An RA union just makes sense.

MUHAMMAD
MUHAMMAD, Computer Science and Engineering

Additional international student protections would give me the peace of mind when I am traveling to my home country that my job is secure.

SHAON
SHAON, Materials Design and Innovation

I want a union to ensure fair wages, equal workloads and the benefits neccessary to support our work and well-being.

ATINUKE
ATINUKE, Medical Chemistry

I want an RA union to negotiate for better pay and job security for international students.

Arun
ARUN, Chemical and Biological Engineering

Research Assistants (RAs) are the backbone of any research institute. An RA union ensures students' concerns can be raised directly to upper management, making us harder to ignore.

Jeremy
JEREMY, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

I want a union so RAs are protected from arbitrary discipline.

Karissa
KARISSA, Pharm/Toxicology

I want an RA union so we can bargain for fair wages annual raises!

Tim

I want an RA Union so that we can bargain a comprehensive dental plan.

Chet
CHET, SUNY Buffalo, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

I have 3 engineering degrees but can't get health insurance because of arbitrary RA rules.

PRASHANT
PRASHANT, Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering

The main reason I want a union is to ensure international students have job security and the ability to handle visa or family emergencies without risking their positions or stipends.

MAria
MARIA, Geology

I want to be part of the RA union to support and help promote safe, respectful, and inclusive working conditions for all research assistants (domestic and international).

Alexis
ALEXIS, Industrial and Systems Engineering

I want equally rights and conditions as TAs. We have more in common than different.
