Vermont: Major Victory! The Vermont Legislature passed S102 to protect and expand union rights
The bill:
- Bans captive audience meetings (a common union-busting tactic), prohibiting employers from requiring workers to attend employer-sponsored meetings or participate in any communications with the employer that include the employer’s opinion about religious or political matters—including unionizing.
- Takes steps towards unionizing rights for agricultural workers by creating a study examining the application of Vermont’s labor relations and employment laws to agricultural workers.
- Provide majority sign-up for public employees organizing a union, and new procedures for majority sign-up for teachers and administrators employed by the school board.
The bill now goes to the Governor to be signed.
