New Jersey Takes on Runaway Inequality

What happened to the American working class? Why does the richest country in history have so many children living in poverty and cannot afford a decent public sector and infrastructure? How do the ultra-rich use racism to divide working people?

CWA members throughout District 1 have been gathering to tackle these questions, and on April 26th, we launched our Reversing Runaway Inequality workshop in New Jersey!

CWA member trainers held the first Reversing Runaway Inequality workshop in New Jersey at Local 1040, with 20 CWA Local 1040 members including Local 1040 President Michele Long-Vickers and Executive Vice President Duwaine Walker. The day was packed with good discussion about the growing gap between rich and poor in the US, what's driven this income inequality, and how we can put a stop to it.

The workshop typically involves a section on taking action with CWA, so the participants stepped out of the union hall to meet up with several hundred other CWA members to march to the NJ Capital in Trenton and deliver a petition demanding a fair contract for state workers to the Governor’s office.
