CWAers Throughout District 1 Fight for Our Fellow Union Members

It’s been a big couple of weeks for workers up and down the East Coast, as several unions staged actions, called for strikes, and formed picket lines. CWAers will always support our union sisters and brothers fighting for union representation, fair contracts, and better working conditions!

March 11 - 1298 supporting IATSE 74 on their picket line in New Haven, CT 

On March 11th, 2020, the 21 Stagehands who work at College Street Music Hall in New Haven voted unanimously in an NLRB-conducted election to be represented by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 74. But one year later, the new IATSE members are still fighting for a fair contract. CWA Local 1298 joined IATSE and several other unions for an informational picket and called for management to bargain fairly.

March 14 - AWU members support picket line at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester, MA 

Google workers and members of the Alphabet Workers Union (AWU)/CWA Local 1400 are some of our newest members in CWA District 1, and they’ve wasted no time in becoming part of the greater union family! As 800 nurses - Massachusetts Nurses Association members - went out on strike at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Worcester, our AWU members hit the streets to walk the picket line and demand safe staffing for our healthcare centers.

March 17 - CWA supporting Marriott workers and Right to Recall legislation in New York City 

CWAers joined several labor groups and elected officials in Times Square, New York City last week to rally in support of Marriott hotel workers who were recently laid off by the multi-million dollar hotel chain and are fighting for their fair severance. During the rally, City Council member Brad Lander announced new Right to Recall legislation being introduced that would require laid off workers to be the first to be re-hired by the company as the city emerges from the COVID-19 crisis and rebuilds.
