CWA Stands with UAW

As soon as the United Auto Workers announced their intent to strike if necessary at the Big Three auto companies, CWA members throughout District 1 and the rest of the country mobilized to show our support and solidarity. When UAW workers began walking off the job at select locations on September 15th - part of the union's "Stand Up Strike" approach with workplaces joining the strike as it continues instead of all at once - CWA members rallied, brought donations, and joined the picket lines.

CWA members and retirees in Western New York came out for a solidarity rally and practice picket on September 20 in Buffalo alongside UAW Local 774, whose members are not on strike yet but are prepared to walk out when called on.

CWAers in the Hudson Valley, NY, including Locals 1107 and 1120, joined several other unions and the AFL-CIO for a rally to support UAW members in Tappan, NY, who walked out September 22.

CWA Locals 1014 and 1033 hit the road to support UAW Local 2177 workers in Langhorne, PA on September 29. Local 1014 President Garren Steiner, who grew up in the area, said, "it's important they know they are not alone in their fight; that their struggles are felt by all of us throughout the labor movement. Lending support to our brothers and sisters as they struggle builds relationships and in turn creates power! It is through these relationships that we, the labor movement, will be successful."

Local 1101 members turned out to help build a strong, loud picket line in Tappan on October 5th - check out their video here!
