CWA MEMBERS FLOOD ALBANY WITH RED FOR LOBBY DAY, RALLY FOR HEALTHCARE

With the end of the 2018-2019 New York State Legislative Session rapidly approaching, several busloads of CWA members from Upstate New York made the trip to Albany on May 14th to make a push for protecting healthcare workers and strengthening our communities.

CWA joined several other unions, including SEIU 1199 and NYSNA, to rally for the Safe Staffing for Quality Care Act, which would define staffing ratios for healthcare workers to ensure that patients are properly cared for.

“We absolutely need more people at the bedside,” said Cori Gambini, President of CWA Local 1168. “When you have too many patients to care for, you are not in the room to see the patient frequently enough. So that's when falls happen, medication errors happen.”

Elsewhere at the capitol, CWA members continued to shore up support for the NY Call Center Jobs Act, talking with Assemblymembers and urging a quick vote to protect call center jobs before even more jobs in New York are lost. We also spoke with legislators about breaking up cable monopolies with legislation that would require Verizon to build out FiOS in all of our communities.
