CWA 1180-Bird Union Settle First Contract - Strike Called Off
After more than two years of hard bargaining, mobilization, and organizing, members of CWA Local 1180-Bird Union have reached a tentative agreement with their employer, the National Audubon Society, for their first union contract!
The 260 bargaining unit members voted overwhelmingly last month to strike after the National Labor Relations Board filed multiple Unfair Labor Practice charges against Audubon. The strike was set to begin today, September 10, but was narrowly averted by marathon bargaining sessions last week and a late-night TA on Friday.
“We are incredibly proud of our fellow CWA 1180-Bird Union members and their solidarity that has sustained us through more than two years of negotiations,” said the Bargaining Committee in a joint statement. “For every member who has walked a practice picket line, spoken out for the contract they deserved, or joined their coworkers for a union action: you built this. In negotiating and organizing for a first contract, our members have built a foundation for the future of all Audubon workers to have a voice on the job.”
The members will meet to review the tentative agreement and vote on ratification in the coming days.
