Connecticut: Major Victory! Unemployment Insurance for Striking Workers

After months of advocacy by CWA Local 1298 and other unions in Connecticut, on May 8th the Connecticut State Legislature amended and passed “An Act Establishing A Connecticut Families And Workers Account (HB 5431), a bill supporting striking workers. This bill would appropriate $3 million in unexpended funds from the State Employees Health Services Costs within the State Comptroller – Fringe Benefits account to be used by the Comptroller to assist low-income workers during a strike. The bill now goes to the Governor to be signed.
