NEW YORK - With major worker issues on the line throughout the country and unions under increasing attack, the Communications Workers of America, District 1, announced their endorsement today for David Buchwald for Congress in New York’s 17th District, citing his strong history of backing workers and fighting against corporate powers.
“In order to build a stronger economy that works for all Americans, we need representatives who will truly fight for working people and defend our union rights,” said CWA District 1 Vice President Dennis G. Trainor. “Assemblymember Buchwald has a strong track record of advocating for New Yorkers and has stood shoulder to shoulder with us against powerful corporations, including voting to pass the NY Call Center Jobs Act just last year to protect New York's call center workers. New York needs David fighting for us in Congress!”
Assemblymember Buchwald has been a longtime champion for legislation to protect workers, strengthen unions, combat corruption, and protect pensions. CWA, with 65,000 members across New York State, has been a strong defender of New York’s workers with a history of holding elected officials accountable. In looking ahead to November, the union cited Buchwald as an important part of ensuring that the current pro-worker Congressional majority stays strong and committed to fighting to protect unions for years to come.
“David’s a proven leader who’s fought for both CWA’s working men and women, as well as our friends in labor time and time again,” said CWA Local 1103 President Kevin Sheil. “He’s been in the trenches with us, standing with us on picket lines and championing workers’ rights. He’ll make a tenacious advocate for labor in Congress because he’s spent the last seven years in the State Assembly doing just that. David’s both a friend and an ally -- we’re looking forward to helping elect him as the next representative of New York’s 17th Congressional District.”
“David isn’t a talker, he’s a doer,” said CWA Local 1107 President John Buchan. “He rolls up his sleeves, fights, and wins. We know first hand that he isn’t afraid to take on powerful interests and stand up for workers. Our members, their families, and all of Rockland County need a fighter like Buchwald in Congress. We’re proud to stand with David Buchwald because he stands with us.”
“I’m honored and humbled to have the support of the CWA and its membership,” said Buchwald. “So many people in the Lower Hudson Valley, New York and the country have benefited from CWA’s powerful advocacy for workers. I’m proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with them in this campaign to fight for workers’ rights, affordable health care, retirement security, and good jobs.”
