DISTRICT 1 ENDORSES REPS. JOE CROWLEY, YVETTE CLARKE
NYC Legislative Political Action Committee members with Rep. Joe Crowley.
Midterm Elections are eight months away and primaries are already beginning in some states. Coming almost two years into President Trump's term and with all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 34 of 100 Senate seats up for election - not to mention attacks on unions ramping up in many states throughout the country and nationally - the stakes are high, especially for working people.
On Friday, March 2, the New York Legislative Political Action Committee met to discuss a range of political endorsements, including two key Congressional seats up for reelection this fall.
Rep. Yvette Clarke, representing the 9th Congressional District (Brooklyn), and Rep. Joe Crowley, representing the 14th Congressional District (the Bronx and Queens), each met with CWA members to discuss a number of different issues including workers' rights, outsourcing of call center jobs, voting rights, and the effects of the recent GOP tax bill.
Both candidates spoke strongly about their commitment to work on behalf of unions in the wake of the impending Janus v AFSCME Supreme Court decision, as well as the need to protect U.S. jobs.
The Committee voted unanimously to endorse Reps. Clarke and Crowley with a strong commitment to support them in their primaries, coming up on June 26.
“With increasing attacks on unions and legislators voting to line the pockets of the country’s richest instead of working for a stronger middle class, the 2018 Midterm elections are going to be critically important," said District 1 President Dennis Trainor. "We need leaders in this country who will fight for working people, like Reps. Clarke and Crowley. We know we can count on them to keep up their long track records of fighting to strengthen our unions.”
With the Special Election coming up next month on April 24, District 1 also announced endorsements of several candidates in State Assembly and Senate District races:
Shelley Mayer | Senate District 37 | Westchseter |
Luis Sepulveda | Senate District 32 | Bronx |
Ari Espinal | Assembly District 39 | Queens |
Harvey Epstein | Assembly District 74 | Manhattan |
Nathalia Fernandez | Assembly District 80 | Manhattan and Bronx |
Doug Smith | Assembly District 5 | Suffolk County |
Patrick Burke | Assembly District 142 | Buffalo |
Steve Stern | Assembly District 102 | Suffolk County |
