Standing with SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild Workers on Strike!

On July 14th, members of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG)-AFTRA went on strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). They join the Writers Guild of America (WGA), whose strike is entering its fourth month - the first time that actors and writers in the TV and film industry have walked out at the same time since 1960.

These workers are making a strong stand in the face of a rapidly changing work landscape that has seen increasing exploitation by entertainment studios and corporations. Not only has corporate profits and CEO compensation gone up while workers’ wages - particularly the lowest paid actors and writers - haven’t kept up, studio executives are seeking to entirely replace workers with artificial intelligence. Instead of having actors and writers work on shows, AI will generate scripts, AI will copy actors’ likenesses without the proper compensation for the workers.

CWA has been a strong supporter of both strikes, committed to rally and walk the picket lines alongside SAG-AFTRA and WGA members until they win the contracts they deserve.
