As the UAW strike enters its fifth week (and just this week grew to include another 6,800 workers), CWAers have continued to make trips to nearby picket lines in New York and Pennsylvania to show our support for the workers maintaining 24-hour picket lines at two locations in and near District 1.
On October 18th, members of CWA Local 1120 who are participating in this year’s Intensive Political Leadership Development training visited the UAW Local 3039 picket line in Tappan, NY.
The next day, a contingent of more than 60 CWA members, staff, and guests attending the CWA Battleground New York Summit took time out to walk the picket lines in Tappan as well as bring food for the strikers.
“Everybody’s been amazing,'' said UAW Local 3039 President Jeff Purcell said to the CWA-packed crowd. “That’s why you always see me so happy-go-lucky, because what’re you going to be mad about? It is what it is. You do what you gotta do to help out your kids - you do this for your kids, your family, your lifestyle, the working class.”
On October 21st, CWAers from Locals 1014 and 1033 traveled again to the picket lines in Longhorne, PA to rally with UAW Local 2177.
On October 4th, CWA District 1 Political Director Hae-Lin Choi paid a visit to the UAW Headquarters office in Detroit, MI and had the opportunity to meet with UAW National President Shawn Fain to tell him that we're with UAW 100%!
