Local 1298 Pushes to Level the Playing Field for Workers in Connecticut

CWA Local 1298 joined a huge crew of workers and supporters for a Lobby Day in Hartford on April 18th, advocating for HB5164, a bill that would make striking workers eligible for Unemployment Insurance after they have been on strike for two weeks. This bill would be a major victory for Connecticut’s workers, giving them more power at the bargaining table and making it harder for employers to "starve workers out” with fears of financial hardship.

If passed, Connecticut would join New York and New Jersey as the only states in the country to allow striking workers to apply for Unemployment.

Local 1120 Fighting to Hold Our Elected Officials Accountable - Hands Off Our Social Security and Medicare!

The House of Representatives majority is threatening our hard-earned retirement with major cuts to Social Security and Medicare—so CWAers have been stepping up to make sure that the public knows that their retirement benefits are on the chopping block, and to send a clear signal to House leadership: we won't stand for cuts to our benefits!

On April 25th, CWA Local 1120 members and retirees rallied in Hudson, NY along with Hudson Mayor Kamal Johnson, the New York State Nurses Association, the Working Families Party, and other community groups and supporters to demand that Rep. Marc Molinaro stand with working families instead of voting for these disastrous cuts to our benefits.

"Right at this point in my life, this is hitting me a little bit harder," said CWA Local 1120's Lance Pagliuca, speaking to the crowd. "I'm at three years and then I plan on retiring. They're constantly talking about cutting Social Security, cutting Medicare. This is going to affect the people who are here."
