LOCAL 1102 FIGHTS TO PRESERVE JOBS ON STATEN ISLAND

The government contract that our CWA Local 1102 members at E-ZPass work under has just been awarded to a new company, Faneuil - and they've already announced the closure of the E-ZPass call center on Staten Island where nearly 300 of our members work. In addition, 60% of the total customer service jobs will be transitioned to remote work. Right now, there is no guarantee those remote positions will go to any of the current workforce. If our members lose their jobs, it will be a devastating loss for Staten Island.CWA members are fighting to secure a commitment from the company to keep our members employed. Local 1102 has been holding a weekly Social Media Storm to get the word out about this crisis, and to tell the stories of workers who are facing the prospect of job loss after a year of working through the COVID-19 pandemic to keep our communities running.
"I started at E-Zpass 3 years ago," wrote 1102 member Hope Gilmore. "Within this time the job has allowed me to move out on my own, find the love of my life, and start our family. My husband and I met at work. This year we moved into our first house. If the Agencies agree to continue with the plan and move the call center upstate, possibly not retaining any of the workers, then I'm not sure how my family will survive."
