Corporate Lawyer Randy Mastro Withdraws Bid to be New York City’s Top Lawyer After Pressure from CWA and Others
In a big win for labor, Randy Mastro dropped out of the running after the public made it clear that the City’s top lawyer should not have a long record of representing greedy corporations.
Randy Mastro was recently nominated by the NYC Mayor as Corporation Counsel, the head of New York City’s law department. For CWA, it was personal – Mastro represented Cablevision during our ugly five year fight to win a union in Brooklyn.
Two weeks ago, Randy Mastro made his case in front of the City Council, where he was grilled for 10 hours about his career. Former CWA District 1 Counsel, Gay Semel, testified against his appointment, sharing CWA’s history with Mastro and making the case that representing a company like Cablevision, which tried to threaten workers out of a union, is disqualifying.
