CWA Local 1181 Response to Mayoral Executive Order 78

Statement from CWA Local 1181 on Mayoral Executive Order 78

According to the Mayor’s order all members of service must either:

  1. Provide proof of full vaccination for COVID-19 to the Medical Division; or
  2. Beginning September 13, 2021, and for each day that a member reports for duty, they must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) diagnostic test taken within the preceding 7 days.

This order is a legally binding executive order that leaves the union little choice but to comply with the order.

CWA 1181 along with other city unions have demanded negotiations regarding the effects of this order; the city has yet to agree to a date to meet.

CWA 1181 is fully committed to fighting for our members that any testing mandated by the city must be conducted on job time at the city’s expense.

CWA believes in vaccinations; they are safe and highly effective, and they are essential to protecting the lives of workers, and their families. We agree with the US Centers for Disease Control that vaccination is the only route out of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is once again worsening with the rapid spread of the Delta variant. We encourage all of our members to be vaccinated.

As more information becomes available, we will keep you updated.
